New compositions have been added to the portfolio page, as well as some general restructuring by my friend & web guru, Jeff Byrnes.
Who I am
Composer, drummer, and musical gene pool.
Welcome all.
My name is Matthew Sorensen. I am a 2007 Contemporary Writing & Production graduate from Berklee College of Music. Born as the first baby in 1983 in Plymouth, MA, I grew up with an unstoppable passion for music. I began at the age of 5 with the piano. Years later I went on to study saxophone & eventually discovered my principle instrument, percussion. I was inducted into the TRI_M music honer society as a sophomore in high school where I began to dabble in production and composition while I studied classical music theory. I was awarded a scholarship to Berklee's Summer Performance Camp while I was in high school, which solidified my decision to further my education at Berklee College of Music. As a Contemporary Writing & Production Major my course curricula consisted of writing for various ensembles including jazz big band, orchestra, and vocal ensembles, as well as general studio production with a focus in commercial writing (film, radio & TV) and production.
Music for me must carry a certain level of sophistication while maintaining a balance with practicality in regards to performing and recording appropriately for any given style.
Music is not only what one prefers, but what is undeniably well done & contains something of merit for all musicians alike.
